Let's rewind here real quick. Back in April each of us here at Two in the Box contributed to a post, giving our thoughts on what our teams should do in the NFL draft.#1 on my wish list was to put together a deal with Miami and bring Jason Taylor to the Redskins.
It didn't happen....until last night.
Yesterday, on the first play of the first practice of Skins training camp, Defensive End Phillip Daniels blew his ACL. Done for the year. By the time the jerseys were washed and cleaned at Redskin Park, Jason Taylor was a Redskin.
The best part of this deal...the Skins didn't get bent over for a first rounder, like the Broncos got from them twice. They lose a 2009 2nd rounder and a 2010 6th rounder. That's MORE than fair for a guy who will bring the Redskins their biggest pass rushing threat since LaVar Arrington was run out of town.
For a 2nd and a 6th, the Skins get a guy who is just 2 years removed from being the NFL's Defensive Player of the year...a guy who I'm sure is motivated to show Bill Parcells that just because he is looking beyond football at career options, that he still has plenty left in the the tank, and is still a Pro-Bowl caliber player.
A couple days back, someone asked me if the Skins would even win 5 games this year. I said I thought 8 was realistic...9 if they got a break or two. With the kind of pass rush that Jason Taylor brings, the Skins go from 7-8 wins to 9 or 10.
And to listen to Mike & Mike this morning...the Skins might not be finished. Think about this. Jim Zorn comes from the Mike Holmgren tree of coaching. Runs a variant of that West Coast offense...the same one that Green Bay runs. Mike Greenberg said no less than 6 times this morning that he thought Favre would be a Redskin this year. I'm not sure how I feel about that one...and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...but for right now, I'm happy that the Skins came through and followed my advice from April. Took 'em long enough...jsut remember, you heard it here first!

Nice pick-up.
I've got the funny feeling that Favre is gonna go back into retirement now...he's a little bit indecisive nowadays.
I think its a good move for the Redskins. Id imagine he has atleast 2 seasons left in the tank and if he can stay on the field it will be well worth the trade.
My big concern with Taylor is that he's starting to line up acting gigs. That's a "strike while the iron's hot" field (Me...I'm still waiting for the iron toheat up!) He's never going to be as marketable as he was immediately following Dancing With the Stars. So I'm worried that life after football is sooner, rather than later...as in 1 and done with the Skins...and then off to do Rundown II with The Rock. "Go away monkey!"
As a fan of the 'Boys, this will be an interesting thing to watch. I'm not predicting a huge year, but just enough to make the Big Tuna regret not keeping him.
