We're about halfway through the NHL playoffs for this year, and they've been fantastic!! Here's some of my takes on what we've seen so far....
--- Last year was a coming out party for Johan Franzen and R.J. Umberger; this year has seen the big emergence of Dustin Byfuglien (who has been AWESOME for Chicago!) and of course Simeon Varlamov of the Caps
--- If the Sharks demise teaches us one thing, it is this: if your forwards are not going to effectively backcheck in the playoffs, your season is going to end early!! Talk about a team with no heart.....geez!
--- The Capitals-Penguins wins the trophy for best playoff series so far!! I still think that Malkin is a better player than Crosby....he sure looks like a young Sergei Fedorov to me! Caps win tonight....Pittsburgh had the series in their hands and they dropped it!! They can't recover, in my opinion....same goes for the Hurricanes!
--- Hey, some free advice to all you Canucks fans who are pounding on Roberto Luongo for being eliminated: SHUT YOUR DIRTY PIEHOLES!! Without Luongo, your team wouldn't even have had a whiff of a playoff spot, much less be contending for a title of any kind!! If you have a beef, take it up with Mats Sundin....who came up with nothing in the playoffs for, like, the 47th season in a row.
--- If you've always thought that a team can't win a bunch of 7-5 games in the Stanley Cup playoffs, check out the Chicago Blackhawks! Although I still think their defense is underrated....Khabibulin can still deliver big-time performances here and there....this team is a real threat to win the cup!!
--- I'm still hoping for a Capitals - Red Wings final, but am still thinking that the Bruins have the league's best team. Of course, they could also be golfing this weekend....the margin of victory is soooo small in NHL games!! One bad bounce or referee call here or there, and the whole game is turned upside down!
--- Even having said that, I'm banking on all three home teams to win game 7 today and tomorrow: Red Wings 4-1, Bruins 3-2 (in overtime!), and Capitals 5-2

God, I hope you're right, Monkey! TOnight's game is keeping me from concentrating on anything else!
I don't know who I'm rooting for more in the Bos/Car series. Say the Caps win tonight...not sure who I'd rather see!
Canes are division rival...and that could be a nasty series. And we at least KNOW them well. And we'd be the top seed, so I guess that's where I'm leaning.
Nice post Monkey. I think I agree with all 3 home teams winning the 3 game sevens.
I'm really not sure where to lay the blame but, I don't think Mats Sundin is who the Canucks fans should take issue with. I thought he played pretty well. I agree it certainly shouldn't be Luongo either.
