Rink Surfin'

Doin a little web surfing today...mostly hockey related...most if it right off of our Blog Roll on the right hand nav bar. A couple cool posts that I wanted to post and share.

Cup Presentation:

This idea from Adam Proteau of The Hockey News is freaking brilliant! I mean so brilliant that they need to figure out how to get this done by tomorrow night's Game 7. Why should the league set itself and it commissioner up for embarrassment (especially when he does it so well himself)...create this great, unique moment that is in the same spirit of the post-game handshake...and have the Captain from the previous Cup winner award the Cup to the Captain of the newly crowned Champ.

I particularly like the idea of having repeat champs bring out someone from their past to present it. Imagine Gordie Howe or Stevie Y coming out tomorrow in their C-adorned Wings jersey to hand the cup to Lidstrom. Or if the Wings don't repeat tomorrow night, Lidstrom having to stick around in defeat to hand the Cup to Crosby.

It's a literal passing of the torch moment...and the kind of tradition that would fit best in hockey...and it would take away that uncomfortable moment of a red-cheeked Bettman suffering through deafening boos. (Of course, I'm not holding my breath. Bettman is the man who sterilized the NHL and scrubbed away a lot of the legacy...The Campbell and Wales Conferences. The Patrick, Adams, Norris, and Smythe Divisions...what a dick.)

A Day with The Cup:

Over at Rock the Red.net, they are celebrating the Captials 35th birthday....and asking fans what they would do if they had one day with the Stanley Cup (as the players of each winning team get). Personally, I think I would go to a really, REALLY good steak place, and get a nice bottle of Opus One or something....and drink it from the Cup while I eat my steak...afterward, maybe get my new acting headshots taken with it in the background!...and later (schedule allowing) take it to my C-league hockey game and skate it around our arena...then fill the cup with ice and put bottles of beer in it in the locker room.
