Wild twist in Roethlisberger case

As it turns out, the woman who has accused Ben Roethlisberger of rape has had a change of mind. She's now suing for false advertising and demanding that the QB change his nickname from Big Ben to "Little Ben...or at least Slightly-Less-Than-Average Ben."

Random Ramblings

Just some random thoughts for Tuesday...

Michael Vick:

Listening to the Sports Junkies on the way in this morning. (106.7 The Fan in DC) They were going through the list of teams that might have space/a need for Mike Vick. One of the teams that came up was Cleveland.

I really REALLY want to see that happen! Can you imagine Vick playing for the team who has a section in their stadium called The Dawg Pound? As a wise man once said, "Irony can be really ironic sometimes."

Jason Campbell and LaVar Arrington:

So 106.7 switched from WJFK (where Don & Mike got their start) to The FAN. Yesterday was their first day as a sports station. And the afternoon show is the LaVar Arrington show.

Man. LaVar really doesn't like Dan Snyder. (Apparently, Snyder is trying to buy 106.7 and add it to his armada of radio stations...so that he can control all things Redskins related...which had LaVar and his co-host Chad Dukes going crazy). The first couple hours of the show were pretty much LaVar taking his first real opportunity to give his side of how his situation played out with the Redskins...and taking very thinly veiled shots at the little dictator in the Owners Box.

LaVar's first guest was Jason Campbell. (Who's situation with the Skins somewhat mirrors LaVar's) I am continually impressed with the maturity and poise that Campbell shows. He's continually thrown under the rug and disrespected by the fans, media and TEAM MANAGEMENT (See: Cutler, Jay and Sanchez, Mark). he could demand a trade, get bitter and angry...But he just keep a very level head and positive attitude. He says that he understands the business...and that he's just going to come and show them why he's the guy.

I really hope that he has an All-Pro year. Not just because I'm a Skins fan...but this kid deserves that "GET OFF MY F***ING BACK" moment. (Mark Rypien had a similar career here up until the 1991-1992 season, where everything clicked and he blew up, leading the Skins toa 14-2 season and a championship.)

#4:

Ok, Brett. Here's the deal.
This is the last time. If you come back, you better sign a 2 or 3 year deal...and play. We don't want to hear your name at ALL next Spring and Summer. No "I'm going to go back to my farm and think it over on my tractor until August."
We're all tired of your crap, you prissy drama queen. Just show up, shut up, and f***ing play...or don't. Either way, we're tired of your name scrolling across the tv on ESPN. Shit or get off the can, ya douche.

Great graphic from Rob Ullman

Rob Ullman writes the Cups and Cakes blog...and brings us all of the great illustrations of young ladies in hockey sweaters. (His pics are enough to forgive him for being a Pens fan!).

Well he has come up with the perfect illustration for the news that the New Jersey Devils have re-hired Jacques "Neutral Zzzzzzone Trap" Lemaire as head coach. Dump and Chase hockey coming soon to an Eastern Conference sheet of ice near you.

NHL Schedule announced

NHL Schedule came out today.

Caps are looking at a bruin sandwich this year. They open up on October 1 at Boston and close on April 11 hosting Boston.

The Caps, however, do not get to play Boston on New years Day in the Winter Classic. That slot went to the Philadelphia Ph**kers...er Flyers.

Rumor has it, though, that the Caps game at Montreal on November 28 will be in Olympic Stadium, which is now a closed-roof venue.

The biggest "HUH" for me on the schedule is that the NHL waited until January to let Sid and the Pens and Alex and the Caps square off. (GARY BETTMAN...THIS IS WHY THE CAPS AND PENS NEED TO BE BACK IN THE SAME DIVISION, YOU PUTZ! FIX THIS!) After the excitement that the Caps/Pens 7-game series brought, you would think they would have found a way to get those two back together on opening week, on a national broadcast.

So there you go. August will bring you pre-season football and Fantasy Football Drafts. Then college and NFL through September...and BANG, Hockey's Back before you know it.

You can check out the full NHL schedule here.
